Shimena cooperation grew out of the desire to generate alternative work options and support artisans, who mostly come from the Dorze Highlands with a long weaving tradition. Initial funding was provided from USAID SME financing, which helped the transition to sustainable and responsible activities such as household spinning and production of cotton thread used by a number of independent weavers in the region. The lamp series Nebule was created in collaboration with Shimena in Arba Minch, Ethiopia.
